Will a portable AC window kit fit your home?
Start with the window, not the product photo. Use this checklist to compare a kit with your actual opening, flyscreen and appliance connector before placing an order.

1. Confirm what the appliance needs
Australian Government guidance says portable refrigerated air conditioners need to exhaust hot air outdoors and are generally less efficient than installed systems. An evaporative cooler uses a different method and is less suitable in humid conditions; it should not be selected as an interchangeable substitute.
Before buying accessories, open the exact model's manual. Make a note of the required hose arrangement and any supplied window components. If the listing does not identify the model clearly, ask the seller for that information before treating a kit as compatible.
2. Match the kit to the opening
For a sliding window, compare the usable opening and the proposed panel's adjustment range. Include the track and the place where the panel would sit, rather than measuring only the glass.
For an awning or casement window, photograph the open sash, hinges and handle. Soft kits are one product type sold locally: Goldair Australia markets a soft window kit for swinging windows. That example establishes a category, not a guarantee that it will fit yours.
Check where any adhesive or fixing would go and whether the surface is suitable according to the kit instructions. Do not assume that a claim such as ‘universal’ covers every frame, finish or opening direction.
3. Check the flyscreen and connector separately
Add two separate rows to your comparison: how the screen is accommodated, and how the hose attaches. A kit may suit the opening but still leave a screen or connection problem unresolved.
- Record whether the flyscreen is fixed, removable or part of another assembly; follow its instructions before changing it.
- Record the appliance model and both sides of the connector, with a photo or drawing where possible.
- Compare the specified kit fittings, not just a nominal hose diameter.
- Follow the appliance manual for hose routing and permitted length; do not design a longer improvised route from a retailer photo.
4. Plan how you will use the room
Our final fit check is about everyday use: can you close and secure the window as intended, use the room normally, and remove or store the kit when it is no longer needed? Work through these questions before ordering, especially if the window is also important for access or ventilation.
Shade may be part of the plan too. Australian Government guidance for tropical homes recommends shading and airflow strategies appropriate to the conditions. Measure the shaded area and check any fixing or permission requirements separately from the AC kit.
For an Australian purchase, check delivery to your postcode, the supplied plug and electrical specifications, the applicable instructions and the seller's returns information. An overseas listing with a familiar model name is not evidence that its accessories or supplied configuration match the local version.

Ready to compare local options?
Keep the checklist beside the listing. This is a category search on the Australian store, not a shortlist of tested or confirmed-compatible products. Confirm the measurements and fittings with the manufacturer or seller where the documentation is unclear.
