Compare the cost of two real options

Laundry still damp

Buy less, compare better

Choose your country below for local guidance. The maths uses your bill and quotes, never a guessed national tariff.

Your assumptions

Editable example only — not national prices, measured performance or a quote. Replace every value with your bill, meter readings or quotes.

Enter only a confirmed cash grant received upfront. Leave delayed tax relief at zero.

Country and language are different choices

This English overview serves readers across countries. Germany, France, Spain and Italy have separate local-language pages with national resources. We do not infer your tariff, permissions or eligibility from your browser language or location.

Start with the job the device must do

A fan is not equivalent to an air conditioner. A dehumidifier does not repair a leak. Before comparing running costs, check capacity, room temperature, noise, drainage and installation. Confirm equal service only when both options meet the same need.

Use bills and installation quotes

Enter variable electricity charges including relevant taxes. For time-of-use tariffs, use a consumption-weighted price over the actual operating hours. Include any changed fixed charges in annual additional costs. Do not count unchanged standing charges as savings.

Local decisions need local evidence

German heating support has a KfW eligibility process. France has the Médiateur national de l’énergie tariff comparator. Spain provides CNMC tariff comparison and IDAE self-consumption guidance. Italy has Portale Offerte and ENEA tax-relief guidance. A tax deduction is not an upfront cash grant.

How the calculation works

Cooling/drying: W ÷ 1000 × hours × days. Heating: useful heat ÷ seasonal ratio. Saving = annual cost A − annual cost B. Payback = max(0, cost B − cash grant − cost A) ÷ positive annual saving.

No financing, discounting, inflation, equipment replacement, degradation or delayed tax credits. Results do not establish capacity, installation permission or grant eligibility.

Working example

1000 W ÷ 1000 × 6 h × 60 = 360 kWh · 700 W ÷ 1000 × 6 h × 60 = 252 kWh. 0.30 €/kWh: A = 108 €, B = 75.60 €. Δ = 32.40 €/a. 700 € ÷ 32.40 €/a = 21.60 a.

Buy less, compare better

Compare appliance labels, dishwashing and showerheads. Start with an example; choose a country and decision. No account or personal details needed.

Method & boundaries

Label: kWh/100 cycles ÷ 100 × yearly cycles; annual labels unchanged. Total = purchase + annual electricity × rate × years. Payback = positive extra investment ÷ positive annual saving. Dishes: machine energy × electricity price + litres × water price/1000; price handwash heating separately.

Annual labels retain their standard test usage; cycle counts affect only cycle-based labels. Do not compare different test standards or capacities. Costs exclude finance, repairs, water, residual value and replacement. Keeping or repairing may be better. Electric appliances only: gas-appliance running costs are not modelled.

Select the energy boundary: whole-cycle electricity includes heating once; for a hot-feed machine, use appliance-only electricity and externally heated litres separately. Do not enter annual EnergyGuide kWh as cycle energy. Dishwashers use the same load and rinse volume. The comparison excludes detergent, cleaning quality, time, purchase and installation costs.

Water difference = flow difference × minutes × showers. Input energy = litres × temperature rise × 0.001163 ÷ heat/input ratio. Heat-pump ratio can exceed 1; use fuel price for a boiler. Does not model fixed tank losses. Do not change stored-water safety settings.

Before buying

  • Heat-pump dryers: check capacity, space, drainage and cycle duration.
  • Fridges and freezers: compare usable volume, ventilation clearance and annual kWh.
  • Dishwashers: match load size, eco programme, plumbing and installation dimensions.
  • Low-flow showerheads: check minimum flow, pressure, heater and approval; shorter showers remain a no-purchase option.

Sources & method

Will the appliance work in your home?

Check obstacles, setup and upkeep before buying. Choose a situation; add measurements only where they change the decision.

Evidence and limits

Sources checked: 5 October 2026. Manufacturer guidance, not our own product tests.

Robot vacuum & home

Reference: Saros 10R, not a ranking. The maker quotes up to 3 cm single or 4 cm double thresholds. Geometry, grip and firmware affect results. Dock dimensions describe required free space, not the dock body.

Laundry still damp

Check damp causes and required home ventilation separately. Do not block ventilation openings. A dehumidifier does not fix leaks; investigate persistent damp.

PortaSplit & window

Installation pre-check, not structural approval or tenancy advice. Check landlord/building requirements separately where needed. Do not treat original PortaSplit and other variants as identical.

Wet-dry cleaner: net time saved

Times are editable examples, not product tests. Savings may be negative. Electricity, water, detergent, filters and rollers add costs; saved time is not a cash return.

Formula: 52 × sessions/week × (manual − machine use − cleanup) ÷ 60.

Your home is the starting point

EcoBack helps you choose suitable equipment, maintain what you own and prepare small projects. These checks do not replace an on-site assessment. Measuring first, keeping your device or deciding not to print are valid outcomes.
